Planner of the Year Award

The annual Association for Learning Environments, North Carolina Chapter Planner of the Year Award is for educational facility planning excellence and is the highest and most distinguished honor conferred by our Chapter. Selection is made by the North Carolina Chapter Jury.

Candidate Qualifications

  • The candidate will preferably be an Association for Learning Environments member in good standing.
  • The candidate must have been actively engaged in professional activities that involve PreK-12 facility administration, planning, design, construction, equipping or maintenance, or other professional activities that support PreK-12 education.
  • The activities upon which the nomination is based shall have produced a body of work that consistently created a positive and significant impact on the learning environment.

Nomination

Nominations must be submitted to Jeff Church at [email protected] by Monday, February 28, 2022.

Submittal Materials

Nominees will submit:
  • The nominee's current resume or vita outlining their educational background and professional experience.
  • An Executive Summary outlining the candidate's professional career.
  • A detailed statement on how the candidate's work embodies the values and mission of A4LE and has advanced the development of effective learning environments.
  • A detailed description of the candidate's most singular outstanding contribution to the learning environment.
  • Letters of reference from supervisors or clients, attesting to the candidate's professional experience (minimum of three).
  • Appendices including documents pertinent to the nomination that further explain the candidate's contributions and/or the significance of the activity for which the nomination was made.

Format

Materials must be submitted electronically. The length of each section of the submittal package is up to the discretion of the candidate.

Award Presentation

The presentation of the Planner of the Year Award will be made at the 2022 North Carolina Chapter Annual Conference in Asheville, North Carolina. Finalists will also be recognized.

2022 Scholarship Award

The North Carolina Chapter of the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE-NC) sponsors a competitive scholarship program to provide financial support for students currently enrolled in a North Carolina undergraduate or post‐graduate program related to planning, design and construction of schools.

Each academic year, up to five students in a North Carolina college or university will be selected as the recipient(s) of a $2,000.00 A4LE – North Carolina Scholarship Award.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Scholarship candidate must be currently enrolled in a bachelor program or accepted/enrolled in a post‐graduate degree program at an accredited post‐secondary institution in North Carolina.
  2. Scholarship candidate must be nominated in writing by an A4LE‐NC member, or by a professor or university staff member who is familiar with his/her work and will attest that the candidate meets eligibility requirements.
  3. Scholarship candidate must complete/submit all required nomination, application, and achievement
  4. Scholarship candidate must submit evidence of enrollment at a North Carolina college or accredited postsecondary institution, for a term of study beyond Spring 2022.
  5. Scholarship candidate must show evidence that their intent is to major in, or that they are currently majoring in, a field related to educational facility planning and/or design, such as Architecture, Project Management or Construction Management.
  6. Scholarship candidate must be interviewed by a current A4LE member, and/or approved by the A4LE‐NC Board of Directors before a final award is made.
