Ron Jones

Director of Food and Nutrition, Greenville County Schools

Ron is a distinguished leader in the field of food service management, renowned for his expertise in culinary arts and nutrition education. With a Bachelor of Science in Food Service Management and an Associate of Science in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University, Ron has cultivated a rich foundation of knowledge that has guided his career.

Currently serving as the Director of Food and Nutrition for Greenville County Schools, Ron oversees a comprehensive program dedicated to providing students with nutritious meals that support their academic success and overall well-being. His passion for creating healthy food environments and fostering positive eating habits among students is a driving force behind continuing the innovative initiatives implemented within the award-winning school meal program. Prior to his role in Greenville County, Ron held several key positions that underscore his commitment to advancing nutrition education and food service excellence. He served as the Director of the Office of Health and Nutrition at the South Carolina Department of Education, where he played a pivotal role in shaping statewide policies and initiatives aimed at improving the nutritional quality of school meals.

As the Executive and Director of Operations for the Atlantic Culinary Academy, a prestigious Le Cordon Bleu program, Ron demonstrated his leadership acumen by overseeing all aspects of culinary education and operations. His dedication to culinary excellence and student success was evident in the rigorous training programs and industry partnerships he fostered.

Ron's extensive experience also includes serving as the Director of Food and Nutrition for Monroe County Schools in the vibrant Florida Keys, where he implemented strategies to enhance meal quality and accessibility for students in a diverse coastal community. Additionally, he served in leadership roles within Spartanburg School Districts 6 and 7. Spartanburg 6 featured a 15-acre organic garden focusing on providing D6 local products served daily in all cafeterias.

Throughout his career, Ron has been a tireless advocate for the health and well-being of students, championing initiatives that prioritize nutrition education, food equity, and community engagement. His exemplary leadership, coupled with his culinary expertise and dedication to serving others, continues to leave a lasting impact on the students, families, and communities he has had the privilege to serve.

Joe Urban

Joe is a seasoned professional with over three decades of experience in the commercial and non-commercial foodservice segments. With a passion for creating memorable dining experiences, Joe has made a significant impact in various roles throughout his career.

For 15 years, Joe served as the proud owner and operator of a chain of 50's themed diners in the central Florida area. His dedication to authenticity and quality earned him a loyal customer base and recognition as a prominent figure in the local culinary scene.

In a career shift, Joe has spent the last 16 years working in the K-12 segment of the industry, the last 10 years serving as the director of one of the largest and most progressive school foodservice programs in the nation. During this time, he spearheaded innovative initiatives to improve the quality and nutrition of meals served to students. His commitment to excellence and forward-thinking approach led to significant improvements in school foodservice across the district.

Recognized for his expertise and influence, Joe became the first and only K-12 chef ambassador for the Certified Angus Beef Brand and the Seafood Nutrition Partnership. In these roles, he actively promoted the benefits of incorporating these high-quality ingredients into school meals, ensuring students received nutritious and delicious options.

Building upon his vast knowledge and experience, Joe founded School Food Rocks, a company dedicated to revolutionizing the K-12 school foodservice industry. Through this venture, he continues to provide consultation, training, and innovative solutions to school districts across the country, enabling them to create healthier, more appealing menus that resonate with students.

Joe's extensive background, entrepreneurial spirit, and unwavering commitment to improving the quality of foodservice in schools have positioned him as a visionary leader in the industry. His contributions have left a lasting impact, inspiring positive change and shaping the future of school foodservice.

Scott Powell

Craig Gauldin Davis Architects

As President of Craig Gaulden Davis Architecture, Scott has a passion for educational projects and has worked with school districts and colleges across South Carolina. He is Secretary and past President of the South Carolina Chapter of A4LE and has been an advocate for education by serving on the SC Department of Education's AccelerateED Task Force to set guidelines on safely returning to school after the pandemic.

He currently serves on the SC Office of School Facilities Planning Guide Committee as well as AIA South Carolina's K12 Advisory Committee. He has won numerous AIA and A4LE awards for his work.
