In 2015, Architectural Exhibitors will be able to exhibit their projects and will again have the opportunity to engage in an Architectural Award Competition. There will be one 2015 Southern Region Architecture Award and two Architecture Merit Awards. Firms may also choose to exhibit their projects even if not entered in the competition. All projects submitted in both the competition and exhibit will be eligible for a People's Choice Award selected by ballot majority of all conference attendees.

Winners will be announced at the School of the Future luncheon on Saturday, April 11, 2015.

Competition jurors will include a representative from each CEFPI Southern Region Chapter. The Architecture Award recipient's project will be submitted for the Exhibition of School Planning and Architecture by the CEFPI Southern Region.

Thursday, April 9, 2015, 6:00 PM through Saturday, April 11, 2015, 1:00 PM.

$200 per project / up to five (5) projects per firm.

Saturday, April 11, 2015 Project boards are to be retrieved by the submitting firm between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. A4LE is not responsible for project boards after 2:00 PM.

Entry Requirements/Rules

Entries will be accepted for any new or renovated educational projects designed and/or built within the past five (5) years. Firms and individuals are invited to submit up to five (5) projects per firm. In order to be considered for the competition, firms must submit a regulation PowerPoint, exhibit boards, and high resolution JPEGs of each board.

Digital submissions for the competition are limited to twelve (12) Microsoft PowerPoint slides and must be submitted on the official template. Submissions not submitted on this template will not be considered. Click here to download the official 2015 PowerPoint template.

Exhibit boards shall consist of two 20" x 20" mounts or one 20" x 40" mount of foam board type material. Composition of boards will be the entrant's discretion. Attach four strips of Velcro to the back of each board. The two panels will be hung vertically (one over the other). A4LE will not be liable for loss or damage to exhibitor's property.

Judging Criteria

Community Environment: Describe how your planning and design response:

  • Celebrates the unique attributes of the community

Learning Environment: Describe how the Learning Environment:

  • Reflects the desired learning program
  • Supports a variety of learning styles and methods for delivering instruction
  • Supports a "learning anytime, anywhere" philosophy
Physical Environment: Describe the Physical Attributes of the Learning Environment and how it:

  • Relates to the learner/user
  • Supports the learning environment/activities
  • Demonstrates sustainability
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of materials, systems, and other building elements
  • Relates to the existing site and the greater environment
  • Inspires both internally and externally
  • Successfully achieves the vision and goals
Planning Process: Define and describe the planning process for this facility including:

  • Who was involved in the process and how did the process affect the learning environment
  • How did the planning team continue to be involved through the design, construction, and post occupancy phases?
  • What methods were used throughout the entire process to ensure the final environment would align with the vision and goals set during the planning phase?
  • Include a timeline of the planning process and a list of the participants
