Ellis Maples, a protégé of famed designer Donald Ross, designed the golf course, which is rated among the top 25 in the state of South Carolina – an impressive ranking considering the world-class reputation of many courses along the coast. Featuring 27 holes up to current USGA tournament standards, the new greens are now planted in Tif-Eagle Bermuda grass. The more than 90 bunkers on the course were rebuilt for better drainage and all teeing areas were leveled and rebuilt as well. The result is a beautiful and challenging golf course, suitable not only for top tournaments, but for the recreational golfer as well. Year after year, Columbia Country Club hosts many amateur and professional tournaments.
