In 2007 Rocky View Schools started an extensive community consultation process to chart their future direction. The consultation included students, staff (educators, central office and administrative), parents, business partners and politicians. The result of this consultation was a profile of learning expectations and strategies to achieve these expectations, including strategies relating to teaching, resources, partnerships, facilities, transitional, professional development and community buy-in. The results also met the provincial government directives around
Inspiring Education, High School Redesign and curriculum redesign that are intended to support 21C skills. Since the first consultation facility design, whether small renovation or new construction, within RVS has focussed on the goals of the consultation.
The tour will include three new facilities that represent ‘the state of the transition’ in the time frame from 2010 to 2016. They include:
- Heloise Lorimer School (grades K-8 school, opened in September 2016, build-out capacity 900)
- W H Croxford School (grades 9-12, constructed as part of the P3 process, opened in September 2014), build-out capacity 1200
- Cooper’s Crossing School (grades K-4, opened September 2016, build-out capacity 600)
A tour bus will leave the Banff Springs Hotel at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 and take delegates from Banff to the schools. The bus returns in time for the evening events. Delegates are also welcome to drive on their own to meet up with the school tour group. The first tour is expected to be between 10:30 and 11:00 AM on Wednesday May 17, 2017.
Seats on the bus are limited to 49.
