Tradeshow: The Alberta Chapter looks forward to offering tradeshow opportunities at our next in-person conference.

9:00 am The Evolution of Innovative Learning Environments
Presented by: Greg Hasiuk MRAIC, MAA, SAA, OAA, AAA, LEED®AP
Partner and Practice Leader, Number TEN Architectural Group

Learn how the design of innovative 21st Century learning environments has evolved across different jurisdictions and cultural boundaries in Western Canada.

Greg Hasiuk is a Partner at Number TEN Architectural Group and is also the firm’s Practice Leader. He has over 25 years of experience and has played a leading role on more than 20 major education projects including K-12 schools, post-secondary facilities, and campuses throughout Western and Northern Canada. Greg leads Number TEN’s research into developing language that better connects pedagogy to the principles of 21st century learning environments and their inherent parts. Greg’s past accomplishments include Douglas Park Elementary School, which was a finalist for the A4LE MacConnell Award in 2013, and Seven Stones Community School, which was recognized in 2015 with two A4LE awards including a LEsolutions Planning & Design Project of Distinction Award (with FNI). École Connaught Community School, which Greg also led, won an A4LE Pacific Northwest Pinnacle Award of Merit and the international A4LE LEsolutions Exceptional Planning Award in 2019. Greg led the planning and design of Soraya Hafez and Thelma Chalifoux Schools for Edmonton Public Schools (opened Sep 2020). Some of his current projects include Legacy Park Elementary School in Weyburn, SK (opening Sep 2021), Nisichawayasihk Neyo Ohtinwak Collegiate in Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, Nelson House, MB. (opening Sep 2021), and the Argyle/St. Pius Joint-use Schools project in Regina (opening Sep 2023).

10:45 am A Panel Discussion on COVID-19 and Mechanical Systems
Julia Burrill will moderate a panel discussion on the impact that Covid-19 has had on the mechanical operations of schools from both a short term and long-term point of view. Each panelist will relay how COVID-19 has impacted their role in design and operations. The panel will address commonly heard questions over the past year as well as take a few live questions from the audience.
