Blossoming Minds… A Time for Renewal and Optimism

The Northeast Region will convene its annual conference at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, April 6-9, 2022. This is a very special time to gather school facility managers, architects, educators, school planners, engineers, maintenance and industry experts to share new conversations in the need for adapting our learning environments to new levels of mindfulness, as well as personalized comfort found in equality, inclusion, and the community. Focusing on a strong understanding of the student experience and designing with empathy allows for school planning to be driven by a focus on the future of learning, while still supporting capital needs, growth and other logistical considerations of school systems.

The 2022 Conference Theme – "Blossoming Minds...A time for renewal and optimism" is influenced by and coincides with the annual Cherry Blossom Festival that Washington DC is known for. Our goal is to foster conversations on the innovative approach educators and planners are taking in transforming the learning experience for future generations of children, and how the built environment and existing learning spaces adapt to the developing minds of our students.

The way in which early discussions affect educational planning as well design solutions is critical. Expanding on effective ways for architects and educators to work together to establish these conversations is key to creating simple models, developing shared ideas as well as understanding how future learning spaces could look and function. The Northeast Region and the Board are inspired by the conversations that have taken place over the last few years, focused on this educational transformation. We look forward to engaging the entire region in continuing these conversations at the Northeast Regional Conference this spring!
