The “Whole” Big Idea Symposium

Agua Fria High School

The Whole Big Idea

SUMMARY

The “whole” BIG Idea – and the questions we should ask, with a Desert Flair!

A broad range of related ideas, qualities and activities. In today’s world of change, it is not the data we gather, but rather the questions that are asked by our clients that shape outcomes that are as diverse as the colors in a rainbow. Join us as we discuss the “big ideas” that are shaping our world, including the whole child AND the whole teacher from the inside out to the outside in that affect district designs and master plans.

Master Planning is distinguished from design in that planning helps to identify the underlying ethos and culture of a community and gauge its readiness for change. From this place of real understanding, it becomes possible to propose conceptual solutions to problems with suitable pathways for transformation. In a data-drenched world, it is not just the information we collect as much as the questions that are asked by our clients that shape outcomes.

Join us for two exciting days of discovery with options. Together, we will learn how to create transformative master plans for small and large school districts to pave the way for transformative policy, programming, and precedence that will act as catalysts for the robust designs that follow.

Join us for this 90-minute interactive “call to action”. Together, we will learn how to create transformative master plans for small and large school districts to pave the way for transformative policy, programming, and precedence that will act as catalysts for the robust designs that follow.

From Sea to Shing Sea the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Boston, Cambridge, Detroit, Austin, San Antonio, Sacramento, and Hawaii are just a few districts that are changing the face of master planning. Join District Leaders, CBRE and DLR Group to hear from the experts about different lenses that can impact Master Plan results. Do a deep dive on five very different “calls to action”, processes, priorities, and outcomes. Key characteristics of a few examples are:
  • Culture and Context
  • Big Data
  • Campus Activation
  • Equity and Social Justice
  • Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment
  • Energy

Content developed in this session will be developed into a white paper that will provide key questions that every district should be aware of when they develop their next master plan.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Learn the framework that allows for a data-driven, research-informed community inspired process.
  2. Learn the pivotal questions that can truly shape outcomes.
  3. Learn how the decision of digital versus printed deliverables can support communication and community buy-in.
  4. Learn how to apply a district’s Call to Action to the planning process.

Pecha Kucha Presentations

Session One is looking to celebrate master plans from across the country. Submit your Pecha Kucha style presentation on master planning. It can be broadly based on one master plan or topically based to align with the sessions identified for the symposium. Since the symposium is really about our clients across the country, if the number of submissions is robust, we will consider either substituting at least one of the sessions on Friday to have a second round of presentations. Register and submit soon, we will be jurying the submissions for show January 2, 2023.
