Introduction

The Disaster Planning, Management and Recovery Guide is a tool to assist your school district in the preparation of your own emergency preparedness guide. It will take you through the responsibilities of essential staff, as well as provide you with checklists of tasks which department heads should complete before, during, and after an event, and issues to consider when creating your district's disaster preparedness guide.

The guide is organized in eleven (11) major categories that we know from experience, must be addressed, as they directly impact school district operations:

Each category has a short overview to explain the major objectives of the section, followed by an outline of items to consider when assembling a planning, management and recovery plan for your own district.

In addition, the guide is divided up into three major planning and management phases:

Before the Event
During the Event
After the Event

This organization should allow you flexibility to select the items that will better serve your district, whether one category at a time, or as an overall effort before, during or after an event.

The formats provided are both PDF and Microsoft Word for downloading and printing. It is our hope that this will give you the information you need to be proactive in preparing for a disaster.
